Steve Miller Band - Young Hearts: Complete Greatest Hits (2003)

John Mellencamp - The Best That I Could Do 1978-1988 (1997)



John Mellencamp, anteriormente conocido como Johnny Cougar, John Cougar y John Cougar Mellencamp (7 de octubre de 1951, Seymour, Indiana, Estados Unidos), es un cantante, compositor y guitarrista de rock americano.

John Mellencamp comenzó su carrera a finales de los 70 (de 1976 es su primer disco, que resultó un fracaso comercial); su popularidad se fue acrecentando aprovechando el tirón de la música de Bruce Springsteen, a la que le unían muchos elementos en común; sin embargo, a medida que avanzaba su carrera, su música se volvía más personal, desarrollando una particular mezcla entre folk rock y hard rock; el punto álgido de su evolución coincide con el de máxima popularidad; cuando sale el disco "American Fool"(1982), que triunfa gracias a los éxitos del número uno "Jack & Diane" y "Hurts so good", dos de sus temas estrella, Mellencamp había desarrollado por completo su propia y particular versión de la música de Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty y Bob Seger, la moderna música de raíces americana.

A este éxito le une el aclamado "Uh-Uh" (1983), su primer disco con el Nombre John Cougar Mellencamp con el éxito "Pink Houses y "Crumblin' Down" (que entró en el top 10 de las listas americanas)"; las temáticas de John Mellencamp rebuscan en el mundo de la américa profunda; pueblos pequeños, casas de barrio americanas con sus Porches de entrada, noches de alcohol, crónicas de vidas modestas.

La intención de Mellencamp era convertirse en comentarista de social de los Baby Boomers del medio oeste, (concepto que agrupa a personas nacidas después de la Segunda Guerra Mundial, 1946 – 1964, marcadas por la música, los cambios sociales y eventos como el Escándalo Watergate, la muerte del presidente Kennedy y de Martin Luther King, la Guerra de Vietnam y otros acontecimientos). Pero, mientras el éxito de ventas había llegado, la crítica no lo empieza a tomar en serio hasta su siguiente disco, "Scarecrow" (1985), un disco en el que ahondaba en la temática social y desplegaba una mayor variedad de estilos, redundando en un éxito de crítica y alcanzando en número dos en las listas, con los éxitos “Lonely Ol´Night”, “Small Town”, y “R.O.C.K. in the U.S.A.”. Tras ese álbum, se volcó más en actividades sociales, organizando ayuda para los granjeros junto con Willie Nelson y Neil Young. También fue conocido por su postura anti empresarial, al rehusar ofertas de patrocinios de marcas de tabaco y cerveza.

Su siguiente disco fue "The Lonesome Jubilee" (1987). En el se hizo notar una mayor y más acusada influencia folk y country de los Apalache, y la temática giraba en torno a la olvidada Norte América Central; alcanzó el número seis en las listas, e incluía los éxitos “Paper in Fire”, “Cherry Bomb” y “Check it Out”.

Gabinete Caligari - Los Singles (1987)



Gabinete Caligari nacieron como trío en 1981, tomando su nombre de la película clave del expresionismo alemán "El gabinete del doctor Caligari". A Ferni Presas, bajista, y Edi Clavo, batería, se unió Jaime Urrutia, guitarra y cantante, que provenía del grupo Ejecutivos Agresivos, y ofrecieron varias de sus primeras actuaciones en el legendario Rockola de Madrid.

Su primer tema, "Golpes", salió editado en un single de cuatro canciones compartido con Parálisis Permanente, por entonces compañeros y con una línea de trabajo parecida. La letra de la canción, deliciosamente morbosa y sadomasoquista, ayudó a abrir los oídos de un público que empezaba a acostumbrarse a los sonidos fáciles y las letras amables de los grupos de la época.

Más tarde llegarían sus dramáticas historias sobre psicópatas condenados a la silla eléctrica, ("Olor a carne quemada"), los traumas de la "mili" obligatoria, ("Obediencia y nada más"), y la invención del denominado "rock torero", ("Que Dios reparta suerte", "Sangre española"), y el momento en el que nacen esas canciones que reúnen todos los requisitos para ser un éxito y trascender épocas y fronteras.

Su primer éxito fue "Cuatro rosas", uno de sus temas más emblemáticos, de gran calidad y cierto aire Dylan en la melodía, envolviendo una de las metáforas más estremecedoras del pop español, en la que el amor y el alcohol vuelven a caminar, inevitablemente, juntos.

En sus discos el trío madrileño ha sabido evolucionar sin dejar de dar, al menos, un par de éxitos en cada uno de ellos. Desde "La culpa fué del cha-cha-chá", hasta "Camino Soria", un homenaje al recio espíritu castellano, pasando por la tarantela en honor al compadreo entre colegas de "El calor del amor en un bar", y tantos otros, ("Caray", "Suite nupcial", "Malditos refranes", "La sangre de tu tristeza", etc).

Los Singles es el primer recopilatorio de Gabinete Caligari, editado en 1987.

The Platinum Collection is a compilation album by David Bowie, released in 2005. The period from 1969 to 1987 is summarised over three discs. The first disc is the same as the compilation The Best of David Bowie 1969/1974, which was released in 1997, and the second disc is the same as the 1998 compilation The Best of David Bowie 1974/1979. The third disc was released as an independent compilation The Best of David Bowie 1980/1987 by EMI on March 19, 2007 (2007-03-19). The Smashing Pumpkins - Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness (1995)



Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness is the third album by American alternative rock band The Smashing Pumpkins, released October 24, 1995, on Virgin Records. Produced by Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan with Flood and Alan Moulder, the twenty-eight-track album was released as a two-disc CD and triple LP. The album features a wide array of styles, as well as greater musical input from bassist D'arcy Wretzky and second guitarist James Iha.

Led by the single “Bullet with Butterfly Wings,” the record debuted at number one on the Billboard charts, the first and only such occurrence for the group. The album spawned four more singles—“1979”; “Zero”; “Tonight, Tonight”; and “Thirty-Three”—over the course of 1996, and has been certified nine times platinum by the RIAA. Praised by critics for its ambition and scope, Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness earned the band seven Grammy Award nominations in 1997.

Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness was released on October 24, 1995. The following week, Mellon Collie debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, an unusual feat for a double-disc album that cost over US$20. The RIAA has certified the album as having sold 9.8 million copies in the United States.

Christopher John Farley of Time called the album "the group's most ambitious and accomplished work yet". Farley wrote, "One gets the feeling that the band [. . .] charged ahead on gut instincts; the sheer scope of the album (28 songs) didn't allow for second-guessing or contrivance." Time selected Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness as the best album of the year in its year-end "Best of 1995" list. Entertainment Weekly gave the album an A rating; reviewer David Browne praised the group's ambition and wrote, "Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness is more than just the work of a tortured, finicky pop obsessive. Corgan presents himself as one of the last true believers: someone for whom spewing out this much music results in some sort of high art for the ages. He doesn't seem concerned with persistent alterna-rock questions of 'selling out,' and good for him: He's aiming for something bigger and all-conquering." Rolling Stone gave the album three out of five stars. Reviewer Jim DeRogatis praised the album as "one of the rare epic rock releases whose bulk is justified in the grooves". The writer stated that the album's main flaw was Corgan's lyrics, describing the songwriter as "wallowing in his own misery and grousing about everyone and everything not meeting his expectations." While DeRogatis contended that Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness "may even match The Wall in its sonic accomplishments", he argued that Corgan's lyrics lacked in comparison. Mojo reviewer Ben Edmunds also praised the music while criticizing Corgan's lyrics. Edmunds wrote, "[Corgan's] lyrics appear to be the repository for the worst aspects of his most treasured influences. He writes with a heavy metal aptitude for wordplay and an inflated prog-rock conviction of its worth, a deadening combination. But there's a sliver of distance in his rage-mongering now that comments as well as expresses.

The album spawned five singles. While Corgan considered issuing "Jellybelly" as the album's first single, he told Chart it was passed over in favor of "Bullet with Butterfly Wings" because "'Bullet's one of those songs where, you know, it's easy to sing along to and [he affects a drawl] ya gotta sell them records." "Bullet with Butterfly Wings" was The Smashing Pumpkins' first single to reach the Top 40 on the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at number 22. "1979", the album's second single, charted at number 12, becoming the band's highest-charting American hit. The "Zero" single was released as an EP with six b-sides. All three of these singles were certified gold by the RIAA. "Tonight, Tonight" and "Thirty-Three", the album's fourth and final singles, reached number 36 and number 39 on the Billboard charts, respectively. While it was not commercially released as a single, the song "Muzzle" reached number eight on the Modern Rock Tracks chart and number ten on the Mainstream Rock Tracks chart.

Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness earned The Smashing Pumpkins nominations in seven categories at the 1997 Grammy Awards, the second-highest number of nominations that year. The group was nominated for Album of the Year, Record of the Year ("1979"), Best Alternative Music Performance, Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal ("1979"), Best Hard Rock Performance with Vocal ("Bullet with Butterfly Wings"), Best Pop Instrumental Performance ("Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness") and Best Music Video, Short Form ("Tonight, Tonight") at the 1997 Grammy Awards. The band won a single award, for Best Hard Rock Performance with Vocal for "Bullet with Butterfly Wings"; it was the group's first. Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness also ranked at number 14 on the 1995 Village Voice Pazz & Jop critics' poll.

Alaska y Dinarama - Deseo Carnal (1984) (Edición Especial 2006)



Deseo Carnal es el segundo álbum de Alaska y Dinarama, lanzado en 1984.

"Cómo pudiste hacerme esto a mí", el primer single de Deseo Carnal, se convierte rápidamente en el #1 y se mantiene hasta principios de 1985 en los primeros puestos de ventas y radio fórmulas. Como consecuencia, el álbum también entra fuerte en las superventas, trepando poco a poco hasta que a finales de año es nº1 y se convierte en un éxito masivo. El disco, con diez canciones, sale a la venta en septiembre, coincidiendo en tiempo con el comienzo de "La Bola de Cristal", programa de TVE presentado por Alaska. El nuevo single "Ni tú ni nadie" es un éxito todavía mayor que el anterior. En el verano sale el tercer single, "Un hombre de verdad". Por supuesto, otro éxito.

Finalizado el año 1985 se calcula que Deseo Carnal ya ha vendido en España más de 500.000 de copias, y en todo el mundo más 1.500.000.

En 2006 se lanza una edición especial de Deseo Carnal en un doble CD donde el primero es el álbum original y el segundo incluye remezclas y versiones nuevas, extendidas y demos.

Duran Duran - The Singles 81-85 (2003)



Singles Box Set 81-85 is a boxset by Duran Duran. Comprising thirteen CDs, it was released by EMI May 12, 2003 (2003-05-12) and covers the era from Duran Duran (1981) to Arena (1984), as well as non-album single "A View to a Kill" (1985).

Each CD is supposed to be a faithful copy of the UK vinyl single as it was released in the early 1980s, with all of the b-sides and alternate tracks, and each is packaged in a square cardboard sleeve replicating the original artwork. The thirteen cardboard sleeves are then packaged in a heavy-duty card box.

This was the first time many of these tracks, including b-sides and alternate versions, appeared on CD.

There is at least one song missing from this collection:

* The initial version of the UK 7 inch "Rio" single (EMI5346) featured the version of the song known as "Rio (Single version)". Later versions of this single replaced the A-side with "Rio (Part 1)". The version of the song included in this collection is "Rio (Part 1)".

Additionally, because this collection is based on the regular UK single releases, there are a number of songs which appeared on international releases, but were excluded from the collection:

* "To the Shore", the US b-side to "Planet Earth". This track is available elsewhere on CD, but so are many other tracks included in this collection.
* "Girls on Film (Night Version)". There is an alternate mix that lasts 5:45 and features slightly different instrumentation. There's also an instrumental Night Version that was released on a Greek 12".
* "My Own Way (Instrumental version)". This instrumental version of the night version appeared on the UK Promo 12 inch single and is a digital bonus track for the 2CD special edition of Rio.
* "New Religion (live)", the US b-side to "The Reflex". This is not the version which appeared on Arena, but a different performance recorded February 7, 1984 (1984-02-07) in Los Angeles.

The Beach Boys - The Greatest Hits Volume 1:20 Good Vibrations (1999)



The Greatest Hits – Volume 1: 20 Good Vibrations is a 1999 single disc compilation by The Beach Boys and released through Capitol Records. Initially, the collection was released in 1995 without its volume number and with a slight difference in sequencing. It was decided to create sequels to the original collection, so the 1995 release was updated accordingly to reflect this change. The updated version was re-issued the same day that its sequel, The Greatest Hits – Volume 2: 20 More Good Vibrations, appeared. The variation to the 1995 issue and the 1999 issue are the versions chosen for Be True To Your School and Help Me, Rhonda. The 1995 issue features the album version of both while the 1999 issue features the single version.

Featuring most of their classic—and biggest—hits during The Beach Boys' 1962-1966 golden streak, the album only breaks the period production by including the worthy 1988 #1 hit, "Kokomo".

The Greatest Hits – Volume 1: 20 Good Vibrations is also notable for crediting Murry Wilson, not Nick Venet, as producer of "Surfin' Safari" and "409", while also modifying "Surfin' USA" and "Shut Down"'s credits to reflect Brian Wilson as producer.

Released in September 1999, The Greatest Hits – Volume 1: 20 Good Vibrations charted at #95 US in March 2000 after a less-than-accurate Beach Boys ABC-TV movie was transmitted.

UK 22-track box set featuring all the singles released in the 9 year period, covering the initial line-up with Rod Evans and Nick Simper, moving through the classic early 70s period with Ian Gillan and Roger Glover, and also the mid 70s line-up featuring David Coverdale and Glenn Hughes; including the classics 'Hush'.

The first time all these tracks have been put together and a great chance for a lot of people to acquaint themselves with the oft overlooked early and later material, with the hideously under-rated Tommy Bolin on guitar. The lion's share of the playing credits go to Blackmore though, and while he may have become a bit of a tempestuous twat and disappeared into a bizarre medieval cocoon, let us not forget that this man was once claimed by many to be God, an accolade shared only with Eric Clapton. And no, "Smoke On The Water" was never released as a single!

Bryan Adams - So Far So Good (1993)



Bryan Adams (November 5, 1959) is a Canadian rock singer-songwriter and photographer. Adams was first nominated at the 28th Grammy Awards for Reckless and "It's Only Love" and won the Grammy and in 1992 won the award for "Best Song Written for a Motion Picture, Television or Other Visual Media" with "(Everything I Do) I Do It for You". This song was featured in the movie Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, starring Kevin Costner and Alan Rickman. The single topped the charts in numerous countries around the world including big markets such as the US, the UK, France, Australia and Germany. "(Everything I Do) I Do It For You" spent a record-breaking sixteen weeks at number one on the UK Singles Chart.

So Far So Good is a compilation album by Bryan Adams, released by A&M Records in November 1993. The album reached number six on The Billboard 200 charts in 1993.

The album contains hits from between "Cuts Like a Knife" (1983) and Waking Up the Neighbours (1991), and a new single, "Please Forgive Me". The only song on the album that has never been released as a single is "Kids Wanna Rock" from Reckless (1984).

Originally the song "So Far So Good" was going to be included on the album so the album started and finished with a new song but it was dropped. The song was included on disc two of Anthology.

18 Til I Die is the seventh studio album by the Canadian rock artist Bryan Adams. Released on June 4, 1996 through A&M Records, the album became a commercial success peaking at #1 in United Kingdom and number two in his homeland Canada. It was recorded on different locations which included Jamaica and France.

Five singles have been released from the album: "The Only Thing That Looks Good on Me Is You", "Let's Make a Night to Remember", "I'll Always Be Right There", "Star" and "18 Til I Die". The album was released in June. To promote the album, Adams toured around North America and Europe.

Los Rebeldes - Cerveza, chicas y... rockabilly! (1981)



Cerveza, chicas y... rockabilly! es el primer LP de la mítica banda española Los Rebeldes, lanzado originalmente en 1981 y reeditado en 1985.

En 1979, Carlos Segarra, junto con Aurelio Morata al bajo, y Moisés Sorolla en la batería, fundan Los Rebeldes. Poco después, en 1980, junto con Los intocables, acompañan a Loquillo en "Los tiempos están cambiando", un disco que alcanzó cierta fama con la canción "Esto no es Hawai".

En 1981, Los Rebeldes graban su primer disco: "Cerveza, chicas y... rockabilly! ", en el que aparecen canciones como "El rock del hombre lobo" o "Mi pequeña Marilyn". Es un disco en el que todas las canciones tienen el característico sonido del rockabilly de los años 50's. A partir del surgimiento de esta banda, la escena rocker de España empezó a crecer.

En 2002, con la excusa del 25 aniversario de la muerte de Elvis, apareció en el mercado 'Elv1s: 30 #1 hits', el álbum que incluye los 17 Números 1 en Estados Unidos y los 18 que consiguió en las islas británicas, en total 30 clásicos remasterizados y con sonido mejorado, indispensables en cualquier discoteca.


ELV1S: 30 #1 Hits is a compilation album by Elvis Presley released in November 2002. It was the first Elvis album to go straight to #1 in the Billboard charts with 500,325 copies sold in its first week, and his tenth album chartopper since 1956. In compiling the album, four different charts were used--Billboard, Cashbox, New Musical Express and Record Retailer. The album has sold more than nine million copies worldwide, topping twenty-six charts around the world. As of December 2005, it has been certified as 5x Platinum by the RIAA. The album is RCA's response to the phenomenally successful release of Capitol's 1, released in November 2000, which featured all 27 of The Beatles' number one songs together on one album.

John Lennon - Rock 'n' Roll (1975) (Reedición 2004)



Rock 'n' Roll es un álbum de temas clásicos del rock'n'roll de los años cincuenta y sesenta versioneados por el músico británico John Lennon y publicado por Apple Records en 1975. La grabación de Rock 'n' Roll duraría cerca de un año y sus caóticas sesiones de grabación entrarían dentro de las leyendas de la música rock.

Aún sujeto a problemas legales con las agencias gubernamentales de los Estados Unidos, Lennon se enfrentaría a nuevos problemas por la demanda del jefe de Roulette Records Morris Levy. Lennon admitiría en una entrevista que el tema "Come Together" introducía tanto un estilo semejante a la canción "You Can't Catch Me", de Chuck Berry, como un verso de la composición ("Here come old flat-top"). Levy demandó a Lennon por infringir derechos de autor, pero acordó suspender la demanda si Lennon grababa al menos tres canciones publicadas por la discográfica de Levy en su siguiente trabajo después de Mind Games. Buscando en el catálogo de publicaciones musicales de Levy, Lennon encontró suficiente material de su agrado para grabar un álbum completo de versiones.

Tras romper con Yoko Ono en otoño de 1973 y llegar a Los Ángeles junto a May Pang, en el periodo conocido como "Lost weekend", Lennon se uniría a Phil Spector en la produción de su nuevo trabajo, desarrollando sesiones de grabación en A&M Records y en Gold Star Recording Studios. Las sesiones se convertirían pronto en continuas fiestas con alcohol y con un Lennon particularmente agresivo. Tras ser expulsados de los estudios de A&M, Spector desaparecería con las cintas grabadas.

Durante este tiempo, y tras reunirse con Harry Nilsson y con su antiguo compañero de grupo Ringo Starr en Los Ángeles, Lennon produciría el trabajo de Nilsson Pussy Cats y contribuiría al álbum de Starr Goodnight Vienna. A medida que pasaba el tiempo, Lennon comenzaría a escribir lo que llegaría a ser Walls and Bridges, y se trasladaría junto a May Pang a Nueva York en la primavera de 1974.

Poco antes de comenzar las sesiones de grabación de Walls and Bridges en Nueva York, Lennon recibiría un paquete con las cintas robadas por Spector, rescatadas por el entonces presidente de Capitol Records Al Coury previo pago de 90.000 dólares. Interesado por la noticia, John pidió a Pang que la llevara a su hogar, donde finalmente adquiriría la foto que conforma la portada de Rock 'n' Roll.

Rock 'n' Roll supondría otro éxito en la carrera de John Lennon, alcanzando el puesto #6 en el Reino Unido y en Estados Unidos, y siendo certificado como disco de oro por la RIAA.

Poco después de la publicación de Rock 'n' Roll, Yoko Ono comunicó a John su embarazo. Decidido a no perder otro bebé tras tres abortos consecutivos de su esposa, Lennon abandonó de forma momentánea su carrera musical para dedicarse a su familia. Sean Lennon nacería el 9 de octubre, el mismo día en que John cumplió 35 años.

En 2004, Yoko Ono supervisó una remezcla de Rock 'n' Roll para su reedición, incluyendo cuatro temas adicionales de las sesiones de grabación de Spector.
