The Clash - London Calling (1979)



London Calling fue el tercer álbum de la banda punk británica The Clash y el que marcó su punto de inflexión comercial y musical, así como el que incorporó finalmente la estética punk a la mitología de la música. La crítica musical suele considerarlo como uno de los mejores álbumes de la historia del rock, de hecho la revista Rolling Stone lo calificó como el mejor de los años 1980 y como el octavo mejor de la historia.

El contenido estilístico musical del álbum es muy variado incluyendo el punk lúgubre ("London Calling"), el blues ("Brand New Cadillac"), el ska ("Wrong 'em Boyo"), la música disco ("Lost in the Supermarket"), el reggae ("The Guns of Brixton") y el rockabilly ("Rudie Can't Fail").

En cuanto a las letras, el contenido político y la crítica social se encuentran presentes como en todos los materiales de la banda. Particularmente, las canciones que más claramente explicitan la temática política son "London Calling", "The Guns of Brixton" y "Spanish Bombs", esta última rindiendo homenaje a los revolucionarios y luchadores de la libertad que combatieron en la Guerra Civil Española y los efectos que tuvo ésta en Andalucía. Otros temas abordados en el álbum son la soledad consecuente al uso de las drogas ("Hateful"), el materialismo ("Lost in the Supermarket"), el fascismo ("Clampdown") y la vida de Montgomery Clift ("The Right Profile").

El título del disco hace referencia a una frase usada en las emisiones de la BBC durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial ("This is London calling...", traducible al español como "Aquí Londres llamando...").

Por otro lado, la portada del mismo, que muestra una fotografía de Paul Simonon rompiendo su bajo en The Palladium de Nueva York en 1979, ha sido usualmente reconocida como la imagen emblema del punk y, de hecho, la Revista Q la calificó como la mejor foto de la historia del rock. En un principio, ni Paul Simonon ni la fotógrafa Pennie Smith quisieron incluir la foto como portada, esta última arguyendo que no era una imagen técnicamente buena. Sin embargo, Strummer convenció a ambos para incluirla. La tipografía que se usó para escribir "London Calling" se basó en la usada para el álbum debut de Elvis Presley.

Tears For Fears - Songs From The Big Chair (1985)



Tears for Fears es una banda Adult oriented rock y New wave fundada por Curt Smith y Roland Orzabal en 1981. Su estilo es muy variado y evidente en cada una de sus producciones musicales que se han mantenido vigentes. Sus principales influencias musicales han sido The Beatles, Human League y Duran Duran, aunque también han llegado a sonar con similitud con Supertramp y Spandau Ballet. Canciones como "Everybody Wants to Rule the World", "Shout" y "Sowing the Seeds of Love" convirtieron a Tears for Fears en uno de los grupos más importantes de los años '80, y en uno de los grupos más reconocidos a nivel mundial.

Tears for Fears ha sido un grupo con ideas concretas que han ido plasmando a lo largo de su historia en letras que tienen que ver con la humanidad y sus problemáticas, los trastornos psicosociales, el amor por la vida entre otros incluyendo tendencias políticas propias de momentos específicos. Tienden al uso de instrumentos electrónicos, en un estilo Synth Pop. Han incurrido también en el estilo de rock progresivo y jazz, logrando grandes baladas como "Woman in Chains".

Sus estilos van del Soft-Rock, al New Wave hasta un ligero toque de Jazz en su producción "The Seeds of Love" de 1989, producciones "Elemental" (1993) y "Raoul and The Kings of Spain" (1995).

Siempre fueron un grupo más ambicioso y destacado que el resto de la oleada de bandas que surgieron a finales de la década de los 70´s y principios de los 80's como Duran Duran, Depeche Mode entre otros. Las ventas de sus primeras 3 producciones (1983-1989) han superado las 20 millones de copias alrededor del mundo y fueron considerados el mejor grupo musical de 1985 gracias a temas como "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" y "Shout", ganándose un puesto entre las bandas más destacadas de la música de los 80s y 90s. Precisamente es el disco "Songs from the Big Chair" el éxito más grande que tuvieron en su carrera, y que los consagraría a mediados de la década de los 80s.

Songs from the Big Chair es el segundo disco del grupo inglés Tears for Fears, aparecido el 17 de febrero de 1985 bajo el sello de Mercury Records. La duración del disco es de 42 minutos y 21 segons. El disco gozó de un éxito a nivel mundial muy importante, y desde su salida ha vendido más de 10 millones de copias, sobre todo gracias a los singles Shout y Everybody wants to rule the world.

janet. es el quinto álbum de estudio publicado por la cantante estadounidense Janet Jackson, lanzado el 4 de mayo de 1993, bajo el sello discográfico de Virgin Records.

Jackson co escribió y co produjo todas las canciones con sus colaboradores de siempre, Jimmy Jam y Terry Lewis, así también con Jellybean Johnson. Éste álbum fue el primero que Janet publicó con su nueva compañía discográfica Virgin Records, después de dejar A&M Records cuando los ejecutivos de Virgin le ofrecieron un contrato multimillonario.

El título, "Janet, period." (en español: janet y punto) se considera una declaración de independencia de la familia de la cantante, especialmente del apellido Jackson. Fue el primer álbum en que Jackson optó por expresar su sexualidad, que si bien ella había se había mostrado a favor de la abstinencia en el sencillo "Let's wait awhile" en 1986, ahora exploraba libre y abiertamente temas sexuales.

Aunque fue considerado menos innovador que sus dos trabajos anteriores Rhythm Nation 1814 y Control, la crítica era generalmente positiva.

janet. debutó en el número uno en Estados Unidos en la lista Billboard 200, convirtiéndose en el tercer álbum consecutivo de la cantante que alcanzaba la cima de dicha lista. Janet Jackson's Rhythm Nation 1814 is the fourth studio album by American recording artist Janet Jackson. Released on September 12, 1989 by A&M Records, Rhythm Nation 1814 is the second album of Jackson's career to be co-written and produced by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. Jackson also shares production credits with long-term collaborator Jellybean Johnson and executive producer John McClain.

Departing from themes of independence present in Jackson's third studio album Control (1986), Rhythm Nation 1814 is a concept album based on social injustice. Though A&M executives wanted an album similar to Control, Jackson insisted on addressing social issues. Jackson and her producers routinely watched television news reports—predominately from CNN—as a source of inspiration for the album's lyrics. Produced during the height of the new jack swing genre, the album incorporates contemporary R&B with rap vocals, as well as the utilization of swung notes and industrial beats.

Rhythm Nation 1814 became Jackson's second consecutive album to peak at number one on the Billboard 200 albums chart and emerged as the best-selling album of 1990 in the United States. Its seven commercial singles, "Miss You Much", "Rhythm Nation", "Escapade", "Alright", "Come Back to Me", "Black Cat", and "Love Will Never Do (Without You)" all peaked within the top five on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart, becoming the first and only album to achieve that feat. The album has been certified 13x platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America and has sold over thirty million records worldwide. Control is the third studio album by American recording artist Janet Jackson, released on February 6, 1986 by A&M Records, and is widely regarded as the breakthrough album of her career. Her collaboration with songwriters and record producers Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis resulted in an unconventional sound: a fusion of rhythm and blues, rap vocals, funk, disco and synthesized percussion that established Jackson, Jam and Lewis as the leading innovators of contemporary R&B. Control enabled Jackson to transition into the popular music market, becoming one of the defining albums of the 1980s and contemporary music.

The theme of Control is an autobiographical account of Jackson's resolve to take charge of her life and career. A majority of the album's lyrics came as the result of a series of changes in her life; a recent annulment from R&B singer James DeBarge, permanently severing her business affairs from her father and manager Joseph and the rest of the Jackson family, hiring A&M executive John McClain as her new management, and her subsequent introduction to Jam and Lewis. Janet Jackson - Design of a Decade 1986/1996 (1995)



Design of a Decade 1986/1996 is the first greatest hits album by American R&B/pop singer Janet Jackson, released in 1995 (see 1995 in music). It was certified double platinum by the RIAA in 1995, and has since sold nearly 10 million copies worldwide.

The album features six of Jackson's hits from Control, seven songs from Janet Jackson's Rhythm Nation 1814, one song from janet., and two previously unreleased songs, the top five hit "Runaway" and the mid-tempo ballad "Twenty Foreplay". A video compilation, featuring all the songs on the album (with the exception of "Twenty Foreplay"), was released concurrently with the album.

Owing to licensing difficulties, several later singles that were big hits—including "If", "Again", "Any Time, Any Place", "Because of Love", and "You Want This"—were omitted from the track listing. Other singles that failed to make the cut included the UK single "Funny How Time Flies (When You're Having Fun)" (from 1986's Control). Several tracks were shortened in order to include "Whoops Now" and "The Best Things in Life Are Free" on the international release.

The album was released as an 18-track disc internationally and as a 16-track disc in the U.S. (omitting Whoops Now and The Best Things in Life Are Free). Some versions of the international edition came with a 7-track bonus disc. This bonus disc was also released individually in Australia. Another limited edition version, housed in a metal case and containing the 18-track version of the album, was released in the UK.

In the booklet, it shows the lyrics to only the new songs, it shows a mini-biography about Janet, it shows different pictures of her from the times of Control, Rhythm Nation 1814 and janet. It also shows the covers of the singles for the new songs when it shows the lyrics and song credits for the new songs.

In promoting the album, A&M re-released the singles "The Best Things In Life Are Free", "When I Think Of You", "Alright", and "The Pleasure Principle" with brand new remixes. A re-release was planned for "Love Will Never Do (Without You)", but was cancelled for unknown reasons.

The Velvet Underground - The Velvet Underground and Nico (1967)



The Velvet Underground and Nico es el primer álbum de estudio de la banda estadounidense de rock alternativo The Velvet Underground lanzado en 1967, éste cuenta con la colaboración en las vocales de la cantante alemana Nico. Su grabación se efectuó en Nueva York y Hollywood entre abril y mayo de 1966 bajo la dirección del líder del movimiento pop art, el estadounidense Andy Warhol, aunque no se acreditó a Norman Dolph y John Licata, responsables de las sesiones en Nueva York, y a Tom Wilson, que en palabras del propio bajista de la banda John Cale fue el productor de casi todas las canciones. Pese a que se grabó en 1966, no salió a la venta hasta el 12 de marzo de 1967 por distintos problemas primero por la censura y posteriormente de realización por la inusual portada, pese a esto lo editó el sello discográfico de jazz Verve Records, propiedad de la Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer.

La temática del disco se centraba en tópicos como el uso y abuso de drogas, la prostitución, el sadismo y masoquismo, y las desviaciones sexuales, éste trasfondo oscuro fue considerado revolucionario en su tiempo. La música fue obra principalmente casi exclusiva del bajista John Cale, influenciado es su trabajo con La Monte Young, John Cage y los inicios del movimiento Fluxus. La portada de la producción estuvo diseñada por el propio Warhol, se trata de la imagen de un plátano pop con una invitación a que se lo pele ("Peel slowly and see"). En diferentes ediciones del álbum, incluida la primera, el plátano es una calcomanía que tapa una imagen fálica ("plátano" rosado sin cáscara). La contraportada de la primera edición contenía una proyección del show Exploding Plastic Inevitable.

El álbum debutó en el puesto 171 entre los álbumes más vendidos de la lista Billboard y desapareció de las tiendas prácticamente de la noche a la mañana, fue muy poco exitoso desde su lanzamiento, pero a la postre se convirtió en uno de los discos más influyentes y aclamados por la crítica en la historia. En el 2003 la revista Rolling Stone lo colocó en el nº 13 en su lista de Los 500 mejores álbumes de todos los tiempos. En el 2006 un jurado compuesto por expertos en preservación de música y sonido de los Estados Unidos la anexó en el Registro Nacional de Grabaciones de la Biblioteca del Congreso de Estados Unidos debido a su "significancia cultural o histórica" en la vida norteamericana.

The Velvet Underground and Nico es algunas veces llamado el "banana album" debido a la pintura realizada por Andy Warhol en la portada del disco, una banana. Las primeras copias del álbum invitaban al propietario a "Peel slowly and see" (Pelarlo lentamente y ver); pelando a la banana se podía observar un platano de color carne por debajo. Una máquina especial fue necesaria para la elaboración de estas carátulas (una de las causas de la demora de la salida de esta producción), pero la MGM pagó los costos de esto sabiendo que cualquier cosa que estuviera vinculado con Warhol elavaría las ventas del album.

En la republicación del CD en 1996, la imagen de la banana paso a ser la portada del disco, mientras que la imagen de la banana fálica paso a la imagen del interior del disco.

El lanzamiento inicial de The Velvet Underground and Nico fue un fracaso, tanto por su falta de similitud con la música pop de la época, lo que llevó al disco ser a ser un fracaso financiero, como por la fuerte temática que se manejaba en el material, que les acarreó negativas por parte de la radio para la reproducción de sus canciones y por parte de las disquerías para distribuir su obra, diversas revistas advertían sobre el contenido fuerte de esta producción. También se le ha atribuido su fracaso a la falta de promoción por parte de su disquera Verve, que falló al promover esta disco.

Su debut en el Billboard Album Chart se produjo el 13 de mayo de 1967 en el #199 para después dejarlo el 10 de junio con el #195. Volvió a entrar en los charts el 18 de noviembre en el #182, llegando a su puesto más alto, #171 el 16 de diciembre y finalmente dejaría permanetemente las listas el 6 de enero de 1968 en el #193. Cuando la Verve retiró del mercado el disco por los problemas legales con Eric Emerson, desapareció de las listas solo por 5 meses.

Un pequeño apunte: para el que no lo tenga, os puedo asegurar que "The Velvet Underground & Nico" es el mejor disco de la historia del rock. El día que lo compre, allá por 1.985, cambio mi vida totalmente; me abrió las puertas a un nuevo universo musical que estaba esperándome oculto.

No lo suelo escuchar casi nunca, pero cuando lo hago -en momentos especiales- me estremezco cuando suenan las primeras notas de "Sunday Morning".

Un pequeño apunte: para el que no lo tenga, os puedo asegurar que "The Velvet Underground & Nico" es el mejor disco de la historia del rock. El día que lo compre, allá por 1.985, cambio mi vida totalmente; me abrió las puertas a un nuevo universo musical que estaba esperándome oculto.

No lo suelo escuchar casi nunca, pero cuando lo hago -en momentos especiales- me estremezco cuando suenan las primeras notas de "Sunday Morning".

Respeto profundamente lo que dices, además, para gustos los colores, pero yo tengo por ahí ese disco y me parece un truño, un rollo de cuidado. Nunca me ha gustado Lou Reed ni un poco, y la Velvet, excepto clasicazos del rock más convencional, me parecen un rollaco. También tendría que decir que nunca me ha gustado el disco y lo he oído muy poco, y tampoco entiendo las letras en ingés, con lo que me pierdo una parte importante. Pero vamosd, que no,que es un rollo.

Michael Jackson - Thriller 25 (2008)



Thriller 25 is a 25th Anniversary special edition reissue of the Michael Jackson album Thriller, the world's best selling album. The prospect of a "second chapter" to Thriller was first publicly discussed on Access Hollywood in late 2006. Jackson said he would discuss the idea with collaborator will.i.am. It was released in Australia on February 8, 2008, then internationally on February 11, 2008 and the following day in the United States.

Thriller 25 was released by Sony BMG's re-issue division, Legacy Recordings. In the United Kingdom, the BBFC gave it a '15' certificate because it included the video for "Thriller". It is the first Jackson album with an age certificate. Along with the original material, the reissue contained remixes, new material, a DVD and collaborations with several contemporary artists.

Two singles, "The Girl Is Mine 2008" and "Wanna Be Startin' Somethin' 2008" were released from the album to moderate success and a number of the other remixes charted, despite no physical release. The reissue was a commercial success, selling 3 million copies worldwide in 12 weeks and was generally well received among critics, despite their view that the new material was not as inspiring as the original.


Jackson released his sixth studio album, Thriller, on November 30, 1982. Selling estimates to over 100 million copies worldwide, Thriller became the best-selling album of all time; the album was the first in history to yield seven top-ten singles. The success of Thriller put Jackson into the dominating position of pop music, becoming an international pop-cultural icon.

Jackson was asked about a "second chapter" to Thriller on Access Hollywood in late 2006. He said he would discuss it with collaborator will.i.am but hadn't yet considered it: "No I haven't really thought about it in that way but I would give it more thought. We haven't really discussed it yet, on that level, but I'm sure at some point we will. But it's a great thought."

Jackson served as executive producer; the album's release was announced in an Epic Records press release on November 30, 2007.


Thriller 25 was released on CD and vinyl. Along with the original material there were seven bonus tracks. A new ballad called "For All Time", Vincent Price's voice-over and five remixes featuring contemporary artists like Fergie and Akon. It also includes a DVD featuring three award-winning music videos, the Emmy-nominated Motown 25 "Billie Jean" performance, and a booklet with a message from Jackson. "For All Time" supposedly dates from 1982, but leaks often credit it as being from Dangerous sessions. Despite this, a new bridge was used in the Thriller 25 release.

Second Helping es el segundo album de estudio del grupo de rock sureño Lynyrd Skynyrd que salio a la venta el 15 de abril de 1974. Este es el primer album del grupo en el que uso 3 guitarras.

Second Helping is a 1974 album by Lynyrd Skynyrd. It was the band's second album, and featured their biggest hit single, "Sweet Home Alabama", an answer song to Neil Young's "Southern Man" and "Alabama". The song reached #8 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in August 1974. Second Helping also featured "The Ballad of Curtis Loew," "Don't Ask Me No Questions," "Workin' for MCA," and "Call Me the Breeze," the latter of which includes an acclaimed piano solo. This was the first Lynyrd Skynyrd album to feature the band's trademark triple guitar attack.

The album reached #12 on the Billboard Album charts, eventually becoming multi-platinum.

Rock N Roll Jesus is Kid Rock's sixth album under the Atlantic Records umbrella and his eleventh overall. The album was released October 9, 2007. Rob Cavallo (Green Day & The Goo Goo Dolls) co-produced the album with Rock. Mike E. Clark produced the track "All Summer Long." The album was not available at the iTunes store in an act of boycott by Kid Rock. It was nominated for two Grammy Awards for Best Rock Album and Best Male Vocal Performance for "All Summer Long" at the 2009 Grammy Awards. He performed songs off the album at WWE Wrestlemania XXV.

The album debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 chart, selling about 172,000 copies in its first week. It is Kid Rock's first and only album so far to go #1 on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart. The album rebounded in March 2008 when "All Summer Long" was released as a single climbing back into the Top 10 on the Billboard 200 staying for 17 weeks. It has been certified 3 times platinum by the RIAA and 5 million Worldwide and was certified 2 times platinum in Canada and gold Germany, Austria and Australia.

The album's first two singles, "So Hott" and "Amen", both did relatively well on the Mainstream Rock and Modern Rock charts despite Kid boycotting iTunes and receiving minimum digital downloads. On the Mainstream Rock chart, the singles peaked at #2 and #11 respectively—the former one becoming the biggest rock hit of his career. The tracks also respectively peaked at #13 and #27 on the Modern Rock charts.

The album's third single, "All Summer Long", was a massive worldwide hit. It peaked at #23 on the Hot 100 chart and #4 on the country charts. It went number one in eight countries across Europe and Australia. "Roll On" and "Rock N Roll Jesus" were released at the same time as follow ups to "All Summer Long." "Roll On" failed to chart in the U.S. but was No 59 in Germany and No 67 in Australia. "Rock N Roll Jesus" failed to produce much success peaking at #34 on the U.S. Mainstream Rock Tracks.

The albums sixth single "Blue Jeans and a Rosary" was released in January 2009. It would peak at #50 on the U.S. Country Chart. Lowlife (living the highlife) became the albums 7th released single on March 8, 2009.

Radio Futura - La canción de Juan Perro (1987)



Radio Futura tiene como propósito para el año 1987 buscar nuevos estilos, así que deciden buscar a un batería que se complemente más con el bajo y a un teclista que produzca nuevas texturas en las canciones. De Este Modo se incorporan al grupo el batería Carlos Torero, que había Formado parte de grupos como (Espasmódicos, Ciudad Jardín, Mercedes Ferrer y La Llave...) que también destacaría por ser especialista en estilos rumberos, y Pedro Navarrete, un teclista de conservatorio decidido a pasarse al rock.

A principios de ese año se publica el sencillo "37 grados", que llega como adelanto de la próxima grabación del grupo.

A finales de 1986 el grupo viaja a Nueva York (donde, según dicen, vivieron una experiencia inolvidable a la hora de componer) para hacer lo contrario a lo que hicieron en Londres: grabar un disco con la mínima tecnología posible y siempre con sonidos naturales y clásicos. Contrataron a Daniel Ponce, percusionista cubano y, como sección de viento, a los Uptown Horns. La banda trae así a España este trabajo sólido y depurado, que alcanzo grandes niveles de ventas, aunque no acabó de convencer a la crítica.

Este álbum, considerado actualmente como el mejor de Radio Futura, es también recordado como el mejor Álbum de rock latino, que inició la senda por la que se han encaminado ya prácticamente todos los grupos españoles actuales, además del disco con el que el grupo se siente más satisfecho.

Esta grabación comienza con un tema corto (de dos minutos y medio) titulado "En un baile de perros", con una música relativamente alegre, quizá con un estilo semejante al de los años veinte. Tras esta rápida introducción, nos tomamos un descanso con "El hombre de papel". Y, al acabar ésta, comienza sin previo aviso y de repente la impresionante "A cara o cruz", nominada por la critica como mejor canción de ese año: cinco minutos y medio de puro rock con ciertos toques latinos. Al seguir escuchándolo, uno se toma otro descanso con la oscura "Lluvia del porvenir", pero a continuación viene una de las grandes de Radio Futura: "La negra flor", otros cinco minutos y medio de genialidad. Tras desvanecerse ésta entre instrumentos de viento comienza la trepidante "37 grados", una de las mejores canciones del rock español: frases apenas sin sentido encadenadas mágicamente con un ritmo increíble. Entonces viene la belleza inmortal de "Annabel Lee", cuya letra es una traducción del último poema de Edgar Allan Poe a cargo de Santiago Auserón, y, tras ella, "Luna de agosto", con referencias constantes al vino. El último descanso antes del gran final es "La mala hora", con la cual uno se hunde en la miseria antes de cantar al amanecer con los últimos cinco minutos y medio de "El canto del gallo", otra de las más grandes del grupo.

De este álbum se extrajeron como sencillos los temas "En un baile de perros", "A cara o cruz", "Lluvia del porvenir", "La negra flor", "37 grados", "Annabel Lee", "La mala hora" y "El canto del gallo".

George Thorogood is a blues rock performer from Wilmington, Delaware, known for his hit song "Bad to the Bone" as well as for covers of blues standards such as Hank Williams' "Move It On Over" and John Lee Hooker's "One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer". George Thorogood and the [Delaware] Destroyers have released 16 studio albums, including five that have been certified Gold. The band is credited with the early success of Rounder Records.

30 Years Of Rock is like a walk through through American musical history, as Thorogood makes his way through the songs of such roots legends as Hank Williams (a rocked-up version of "Move It on Over", a proto-rockabilly song to begin with), Elmore James (the blistering slow blues "The Sky Is Crying", predating Stevie Ray Vaughan's version), Bo Diddley (a tough, pounding "Who Do You Love?"), and more.
