The Beatles - With The Beatles (1963) (Remastered 2009)

Imagen

With The Beatles (rendered on album as with the beatles) is The Beatles' second UK album, recorded four months after the band's first album and released on 22 November 1963, the same day President John F. Kennedy was assassinated, on Parlophone in mono (catalogue number PMC 1206) and stereo (PCS 3045).

The album features eight original compositions (including the first by George Harrison) and six covers, mostly of Motown and R&B hits. Most of the songs from the album were released in the United States as Meet The Beatles! on 20 January 1964, and the remaining that were not, were released on their next U.S. album, The Beatles' Second Album.

The LP had advance orders of a half million and sold another half million by September 1965 — making it the second album to sell a million copies in the UK (the first being the South Pacific soundtrack).[citation needed] It stayed at the top of the charts for 21 weeks, displacing Please Please Me, so that the Beatles occupied the top spot for 51 consecutive weeks. It even reached number eleven in the "singles charts" (because at the time UK charts counted all records sold, regardless of format).

In 2003, the album was ranked number 420 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.

On 26 February 1987, With The Beatles was officially released on compact disc (in mono only, catalogue number CDP 7 46436 2), as were three other of the Beatles' albums, Please Please Me, A Hard Day's Night, and Beatles for Sale. Having been available only as an import in the US in the past, the album was also issued domestically in the US on LP and cassette on 21 July 1987.

Along with all the other original UK studio albums, it was re-released on CD in newly remastered versions on 9 September 2009 in stereo and mono.

The Beatles - Rubber Soul (1965) (Remastered 2009)

Imagen

Rubber Soul is the sixth UK studio album and the eleventh US release by the British rock band The Beatles. Produced by George Martin and released in December 1965, Rubber Soul had been recorded in just over four weeks to make the Christmas market. Track list changes to the USA release, including two acoustic songs held over from the previous album, Help!, gave the album a folk-rock feel, which critics attributed to The Byrds and Bob Dylan. The original UK release, however, shows the "soul" influence of the album's title. The album was seen as a major artistic achievement, attaining widespread critical and commercial success, with reviewers taking note of The Beatles' developing musical vision.

Rubber Soul is often cited as one of the greatest albums in pop music history. In 1998, Q magazine readers voted it the 40th greatest album of all time, while in 2000 the same publication placed it at number 21 in its list of the 100 Greatest British Albums Ever. In 2001, VH1 placed it at number 6. In 2003, the album was ranked number 5 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time. In 2006, the album was chosen by Time magazine as one of the 100 best albums of all time.

McCartney conceived the album's title after overhearing a black musician's description of Mick Jagger's singing style as "plastic soul". Lennon confirmed this in a 1970 interview with Rolling Stone, stating, "That was Paul's title... meaning English soul. Just a pun." McCartney said a similar phrase, "Plastic soul, man. Plastic soul...", at the end of "I'm Down" take 1, on Anthology 2.

The album was re-released on 9 September 2009 with digitally remastered songs both in stereo and mono along with other Beatles albums.

Track Listing

The Beatles - Revolver (1966) (Remastered 2009)

Imagen

Revolver is the seventh album by The Beatles, released on 5 August 1966. Many of the tracks on Revolver are marked by an electric guitar-rock sound, in contrast with their previous, folk rock inspired Rubber Soul. It reached #1 on both the UK chart and U.S. chart and stayed at the top spot for seven weeks and six weeks, respectively.

The album is often regarded as one of the Beatles greatest studio achievements. It was released before their last tour in August 1966, but they did not perform songs from the album live. Their reasoning for this was that many of the tracks on the album, for example "Tomorrow Never Knows", were too complex to perform with live instruments.

Track Listing

01. Taxman
02. Eleanor Rigby
03. I’m Only Sleeping
04. Love You To
05. Here, There And Everywhere
06. Yellow Submarine
07. She Said She Said
08. Good Day Sunshine
09. And Your Bird Can Sing
10. For No One
11. Doctor Robert
12. I Want To Tell You

The Beatles - Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (1967) (Remastered 2009)

Imagen

Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band is the eighth studio album by English rock band The Beatles. Released 1 June 1967, it became a defining album in the emerging psychedelic rock style; it has since been recognised by prominent critics and publications as one of the most influential albums of all time.

Recorded over a 129-day period beginning in December 1966, Sgt. Pepper sees the band exploring further the experimentation of their previous album, 1966's Revolver. Making use of orchestras, hired musicians and innovative production techniques, the album incorporates elements of music hall, rock and roll, western classical and traditional Indian music; its lyrics deal particularly with themes of childhood and everyday life. The album is loosely based on a concept that the Beatles are performing as the fictitious band of the album's title; the cover art, depicting the band posing in front of a collage of famous individuals, has itself been widely acclaimed and imitated.

The album was a commercial success, spending a total of 27 weeks at the top of the UK Album Chart and 15 weeks at number one in the American Billboard 200. It was critically acclaimed upon release and won four Grammy awards in 1968. Sgt. Pepper frequently ranks at or near the top of published lists of the greatest albums of all time, including the top of Rolling Stone magazine's 2003 list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.

Track Listing

01. Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band
02. With A Little Help From My Friends
03. Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds

The Beatles - Magical Mystery Tour (1967) (Remastered 2009)

Imagen

Magical Mystery Tour is a record by the English rock band The Beatles, first released as an 11-track LP in the US on 27 November 1967 and on 8 December 1967 in the UK as a 6-song double-extended play disk (EP). Both the US and UK records feature the 6-song soundtrack to a one-hour television film of the same name originally aired in 1967. The US release expanded the record to a full album, with the soundtrack on the A-side, and the two sides of the band's three 1967 singles on the album's B-side (other than "I Am The Walrus" which was already on the A-side).

The US album was later adopted by Apple and EMI as the preferred version of the record when the Beatles' discography was being updated for the Compact Disc format; this is the only US release for which this was done.

The Beatles - The Beatles (The White Album) (1968) (Remastered 2009)

Imagen

The Beatles is the ninth official British album and the fifteenth American album by The Beatles, a double album released in 1968. It is commonly known as The White Album as it has no graphics or text other than the band's name (and, on the early LP and CD releases, a serial number) on its plain white sleeve. The album was the first The Beatles undertook following the death of their manager, Brian Epstein (Magical Mystery Tour is listed as a movie soundtrack). Originally entitled A Doll's House, the title was changed when the British progressive band Family released the similarly titled Music in a Doll's House earlier that year.

The Beatles was written and recorded during a period of turmoil for the group. After visiting the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi in India and having a particularly productive songwriting session in early 1968, the group returned to the studio for recording from May to October 1968, only to have conflict and dissent drive the group members apart. Drummer Ringo Starr quit the band for a brief time, leaving bassist Paul McCartney to perform drums on some of the album's songs.

Upon release in November 1968, the album received mixed to positive reviews and reached the #1 spot on the charts in the United Kingdom and United States. The album is notable for the eclectic nature of its songs, which has divided critics in evaluating the album's legacy. Still, The Beatles is regarded as one of the greatest albums in rock history. In 2003, the album was ranked number 10 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of "The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time".

The Beatles - Abbey Road (1969) (Remastered 2009)

Imagen

Abbey Road is the 11th official U.K. album and 17th U.S. album released by The Beatles. Though work on Abbey Road began in April 1969, making it the final album recorded by the band, Let It Be was the last album released before the Beatles' dissolution in 1970. Abbey Road was released on 26 September 1969 in the United Kingdom, and 1 October 1969 in the United States. It was produced and orchestrated by George Martin for Apple Records. Geoff Emerick was engineer, Alan Parsons was assistant engineer, and Tony Banks was tape operator. It is regarded as one of The Beatles' most tightly constructed albums, although the band was barely operating as a functioning unit at the time. Rolling Stone magazine named it the 14th greatest album of all time, even though the magazine initially gave the album a mixed reception: Their 15 November 1969 issue features two very different reviews—a strongly negative one from Ed Ward, who particularly criticizes its overproduction, and a rave review from John Mendelsohn.

The album was re-released on 9 September 2009 with digitally remastered songs in stereo (though not in mono, as it was never released in mono at the time of its creation) along with other Beatles albums.

Track Listing

01. Come Together
02. Something

The Beatles - Let It Be (1970) (Remastered 2009)

Imagen

Let It Be is the 12th and final studio album released by the English rock band The Beatles. It was released on 8 May 1970, by the band's Apple Records label shortly after the group's announced breakup.

Most of Let It Be was recorded in January 1969, before the recording and release of the album Abbey Road. For this reason, some critics and fans, such as Mark Lewisohn, argue that Abbey Road should be considered the group's final album and Let It Be the penultimate. Let It Be was originally intended to be released before Abbey Road during mid-1969 as Get Back, but the Beatles were unhappy with this version, which was mixed and compiled by Glyn Johns, and it was temporarily shelved. A new version of the album was created from the studio tapes by Phil Spector in 1970 and finally released as Let It Be. The album acts as a soundtrack album for the 1970 motion picture of the same name, a documentary of the band rehearsing and recording the album. While two songs from the sessions were released as singles before the album's release, "Get Back" and "Let It Be," the songs were remixed by Spector for the album.

The rehearsals and recording sessions for the album did not run smoothly because of increasing acrimony among the four Beatles. The group bickered and argued throughout the album's production. George Harrison, at one point during the rehearsals, walked out and quit the group after severely arguing with both Paul McCartney and John Lennon, only to be coaxed back some days later. The film version is famous for showcasing a number of conflicts between the group members and has frequently been referred to as a documentary intended to show the making of an album but instead showing "the break-up of a band."

Despite a largely negative review from Rolling Stone magazine at the time of its release, this determination was later retracted with the album being ranked number 86 in the magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time in 2003.

Let it Be...Naked was released in 2003, an alternative version of the album stripping much of Phil Spector's production work.

Imagen

Past Masters is a two-volume compilation album set by The Beatles released in 1988 following the 1987 release of the band's original UK studio albums on CD. Past Masters collects tracks that were not released on studio albums, so that the band's entire catalogue could be available on CD. Past Masters contained every song not included on 12 original UK Beatles albums or the Magical Mystery Tour LP that was commercially released by EMI from 1962 to 1970. The majority of the album consists of the A- and B-sides of the band's singles (including single versions of songs that appeared differently on albums) Long Tall Sally EP, a U.S.-only album track, and a track used on a charity compilation round out the collection.

Past Masters was initially released as two separate CDs on 7 March 1988, with a two-LP vinyl set combining both volumes following on 24 October 1988 in the United States and 10 November 1988 in the United Kingdom. The original CDs were included in 1988 The Beatles Box Set. A two-CD set of both volumes, was released on 9 September 2009 as part of the Beatles Remastered project. and was in The Beatles Stereo Box Set with two new stereo mixes. An album entitled Mono Masters took the place of Past Masters in The Beatles in Mono box set, containing a similar track list in original mono mixes; The second disc features a different tracklist, reflecting the fact that later songs were mixed or released only in stereo.

Joan Jett & The Blackhearts - Fit To Be Tied (1997/2006)

Imagen

Fit To Be Tied is a compilation CD released by Joan Jett and the Blackhearts. The collection was released in the United States in 1997. It was remastered and reissued in 2006 with slightly different artwork.

Every teenage girl who has picked up a guitar since Jett's first band the Runaways hit the scene back in '75 owes her a huge debt of gratitude. While bandmate Lita Ford had the chops and Sue Thomas (who never recorded with them) found greater commercial success as Michael Steele with The Bangles, it was Joan Jett who embodied the punk attitude that would inform the "riot grrrl" movement twenty years later. Unfortunately, the Runaways did not achieve the commercial success that their imitators enjoyed. Jett would later find that success in the MTV era, leading The Blackhearts. This compilation documents both her artistic and commercial triumphs. She topped the charts in '82 with "I Love Rock N Roll" and had several other top twenty hits including "Do You Wanna Touch Me? (Oh Yeah!)" and starred opposite Michael J. Fox in the film "Light Of Day." 15 years before Sleater-Kinney, she raised eyebrows by recording the Tommy James hit "Crimson And Clover" without changing the gender to reflect a (heterosexual) woman's point of view. FIT TO BE TIED makes certain that Jett will always be remembered for the ground she broke.

Imagen

Once Upon a Time is the seventh studio album by Simple Minds, released in 1985.

Although already successful in their native UK and Europe, the band had also now become popular in the US, mainly due to the Keith Forsey-penned "Don't You (Forget About Me)" which appeared on The Breakfast Club soundtrack and had become a no.1 hit there. However, the band decided to leave the track off the album. Four singles were taken from the album; "Alive and Kicking" (UK #7, US #3), "All the Things She Said" (UK #9, US #28), "Sanctify Yourself" (UK #10, US #14), and "Ghost Dancing" (UK #13). The album topped the UK charts, and peaked at no.10 on the US charts.

Red Hot Chili Peppers - Stadium Arcadium (2006)

Imagen

Stadium Arcadium is the ninth studio album by alternative rock band Red Hot Chili Peppers, released on May 5, 2006, on Warner Bros. Records in Europe and May 9 in the United States. It sold 442,000 copies in the U.S. in the first week and debuted at number one on the Billboard 200. The album produced five singles: "Dani California", "Snow ((Hey Oh))", "Desecration Smile", "Hump De Bump", and "Tell Me Baby". According to the band's vocalist Anthony Kiedis, Stadium Arcadium was originally scheduled to be a trilogy of albums each released six months apart, but was eventually condensed into a double album.

The record was critically praised for integrating musical styles from several aspects of the band's career. The album gained the band seven Grammy Award nominations in 2007 including an award for Best Rock Album. It was the most nominations that the band had garnered in their 25-year career. Kiedis attributed the album's success to less abrasive dynamics within the band, saying that the band's "chemistry, when it comes to writing, is better than ever. There was always a struggle to dominate lyrically. But we are now confident enough in who we are, so everybody feels more comfortable contributing more and more valuable, quality stuff".

Red Hot Chili Peppers - By The Way (2002)

Imagen

By the Way is the eighth studio album by American alternative rock band Red Hot Chili Peppers, released on July 9, 2002, on Warner Bros. Records. It sold over 282,000 copies in the first week, and peaked at number two on the Billboard 200. The singles from the album included "By the Way", "The Zephyr Song", "Can't Stop", "Dosed" and "Universally Speaking". The lyrical subject matter vocalist Anthony Kiedis addresses in By the Way is a divergence from previous Chili Peppers albums, with Kiedis taking a more candid and reflective approach to his lyricism.

By the Way was applauded by critics as a departure from the band's previous styles, and is recognized for the melodic and subdued emotions given by the Chili Peppers. Guitarist John Frusciante is credited with writing most of the album's melodies, bass lines, and guitar progressions, therefore changing the direction of the recording dramatically: "his warm, understated guitar work and his doo-wop style vocal harmonies are king this time around." By the Way contained virtually none of the signature punk-funk fusion the band had become known for playing. Frusciante has stated that writing "By the Way [was] one of the happiest times in my life."

Red Hot Chili Peppers - Californication (1999)

Imagen

Californication is the seventh studio album by American alternative rock band Red Hot Chili Peppers, released on June 8, 1999 on Warner Bros. Records. Produced by Rick Rubin, Californication marked the return of John Frusciante, who had previously appeared on Mother's Milk and Blood Sugar Sex Magik, to replace Dave Navarro as the band's guitarist. Frusciante's return was credited with changing the band's sound altogether. The record was a notable shift in style from what was produced with Navarro. The album's subject material incorporated various sexual innuendos commonly associated with the band, and introduced themes of lust, death, contemplations of suicide, and drugs.

Californication produced several hits for the band, including "Otherside", "Californication" and the Grammy Award-winning "Scar Tissue". Californication peaked at number three on the U.S. Billboard 200. It is the Chili Peppers' most commercially successful album to date, selling more than fifteen million copies worldwide; a revitalization in comparison to their previous album, One Hot Minute. The record marked a change in style for the band; Rolling Stone's Greg Tate noted that "while all previous Chili Peppers projects have been highly spirited, Californication dares to be spiritual and epiphanic."

Red Hot Chili Peppers - One Hot Minute (1995)

Imagen

One Hot Minute is the sixth studio album by American alternative rock band Red Hot Chili Peppers, released on September 12, 1995 on Warner Bros. Records. The worldwide success of the band's previous album, Blood Sugar Sex Magik, caused guitarist John Frusciante to become uncomfortable with their status, eventually quitting mid-tour in 1992.

It would be the only album former Jane's Addiction guitarist Dave Navarro would record with the band. His presence altered the Red Hot Chili Peppers' sound considerably. One Hot Minute contains fewer sexual themes than previous records, and explores darker subject matters such as drug use, depression, anguish and grief. It also integrated use of heavy metal guitar riffs. Vocalist Anthony Kiedis, who had resumed addictions to cocaine and heroin in 1994 after being sober for more than five years, approached his lyricism with a reflective outlook on drugs and their harsh effects.

One Hot Minute was a commercial disappointment despite producing three hit singles and reaching #4 on the Billboard Top 200. It sold less than half as many copies as Blood Sugar Sex Magik and received much less critical acclaim. Navarro was ultimately fired from the band due to creative differences in 1997.
