U2 - Boy (Deluxe) (1980/2008)

Imagen

Boy is the debut album from Irish rock band U2, released October 20, 1980. Produced by Steve Lillywhite, the album received generally positive reviews. Common themes among the album's songs are the thoughts and frustrations of adolescence. The album included the band's first United Kingdom hit single, "I Will Follow". Boy's release was followed by U2's first tour of continental Europe and the United States. Despite being unpolished, these early live performances demonstrated U2's potential. In 2003, it was ranked #417 in Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

On April 9, 2008, U2.com confirmed that Boy, along with the band's other first three albums, October and War would be re-released as newly remastered versions. U2 - October (Deluxe) (1981/2008)

Imagen

October is the second album by Irish rock band U2, released in 1981. The album featured spiritual themes, inspired by Bono, The Edge, and Larry Mullen, Jr.'s memberships in a Christian group called the "Shalom Fellowship", which led them to question the relationship between the Christian faith and the rock and roll lifestyle. The album received mixed reviews and limited radio play.

On April 9, 2008, U2.com confirmed that October, along with the band's other first three albums, Boy and War would be re-released as newly remastered versions. U2 - War (Deluxe) (1983/2008)

Imagen

War is the third studio album by Irish rock band U2, released on February 28, 1983 (1983-02-28). The album has come to be regarded as U2's first overtly political album, in part because of songs like "Sunday Bloody Sunday", "New Year's Day", as well as the title, which stems from the band's perception of the world at the time; Bono stated that "war seemed to be the motif for 1982."
While the central themes of their earlier albums Boy and October focused on adolescence and spirituality, respectively, War focused on both the physical aspects of warfare, and the emotional aftereffects. The album has been described as the record where the band "turned pacifism itself into a crusade."
War was a commercial success for the band, knocking Michael Jackson's Thriller from the top of the charts to become the band's first #1 album in the UK. In 2003, the album was ranked number 221 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.

Following the remastered re-release of The Joshua Tree in 2007, it was rumoured that the band would also remaster and re-release War, along with the albums Boy, and October. This was confirmed by U2.com on April 9, 2008 (2008-04-09). The remastered album was released on July 21, 2008 (2008-07-21) in the UK, with the U.S. version following it the next day. U2 - Rattle and Hum (1988)

Imagen

Rattle and Hum is the name of both an album and a companion motion picture recorded by Irish rock band U2. Both were released in 1988.

The album, which was made following the band's 1987 Joshua Tree Tour, is a mix of live recordings, covers, and new songs. To a greater extent than their previous album, The Joshua Tree, the band explore roots rock and experiment with incorporating influences from blues-rock, folk rock, and country music into their music. The film documents the band's Joshua Tree Tour of the United States and the band's experiences with American music. Although the album and motion picture were intended to represent the band paying tribute to rock legends, critics said that U2 were trying to place themselves amongst the ranks of these artists.

Track List
1. Helter Skelter (Live)
2. Van Dieman’s Land
3. Desire
4. Hawkmoon 269 (with Bob Dylan)
5. All Along The Watchtower (Live)

U2 - Achtung Baby (1991)

Imagen

Achtung Baby is the seventh studio album by Irish rock band U2, released on 19 November 1991. Stung by criticism of their previous album, Rattle and Hum, the album was a calculated change in musical and thematic direction with the incorporation of alternative rock, electronic dance music, and industrial influences. It was the band's most dramatic change since The Unforgettable Fire album.

Seeking renewal and inspiration on the eve of German reunification, the band began work on Achtung Baby in Berlin's Hansa Studios in October 1990 with producers Daniel Lanois and Brian Eno. Conflict arose within the band over the quality of the material and their musical direction. Weeks of slow progress, arguments, and tension subsided when the band quickly improvised the song "One", which was a breakthrough for the album sessions. The band was more productive in the studio after recording sessions moved to Dublin in 1991.

Sonically, the band referred to the album as the sound of "four men chopping down the Joshua Tree". Thematically, it was a more inward-looking and personal record; it was darker, yet more playful than the band's previous work. Commercially and critically, Achtung Baby has been one of the band's most successful albums. It produced several hit singles in "One", "Mysterious Ways", and "The Fly", has sold 18 million copies worldwide, and won a Grammy Award. The album and the subsequent multimedia-intensive Zoo TV Tour were a crucial part of the band's 1990s reinvention. In 2003, the album was ranked number 62 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of "The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time".

U2 - Zooropa (1993)

Imagen

Zooropa is the eighth studio album by the Irish rock band U2. Originally intended as an EP, it was recorded between legs of the Zoo TV Tour and released on 5 July 1993 by Island Records as a full-length album. Influenced by both tour life and the ideas of media barrage and irony from the tour, Zooropa continues the band's experimentation with alternative rock and electronic music from their previous album Achtung Baby. Much like that album, Zooropa was critically and commercially successful. The album's title is a combination of "Zoo TV" and "Europa."

Track listing
All songs written and composed by U2, with lyrics by Bono (except where noted).
1. "Zooropa" 6:31
2. "Babyface" 4:01
3. "Numb" (The Edge) 4:20

8. "The First Time" 3:45
9. "Dirty Day" (Bono, The Edge) 5:24
10. "The Wanderer" (featuring Johnny Cash) 5:41

U2 - Pop (1997)

Imagen

Pop is the ninth studio album by Irish rock band U2, released in March 1997. It is notable for combining elements of popular techno, dance, and electronica influences with traditional alternative rock.

U2 were rushed into completing Pop, even after delaying the album by four months, as the band had booked the elaborately-staged PopMart Tour ahead of time while still in the studio. Since the album's release, many of its songs have been re-recorded and remixed. Although an early commercial success at the time of its release — it reached number one in 32 countries, including the UK and the US —Pop's lifetime sales are among the lowest in U2's catalogue, and critical reaction was mixed. It was certified RIAA platinum once, the lowest since the band's album October.

U2 - How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb (2004)

Imagen

How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb is the eleventh studio album by Irish rock band U2, released in November 2004. Much like their previous album, All That You Can't Leave Behind, How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb was commercially successful and critically acclaimed and maintains a more traditional rock sound after the band experimented with alternative rock and dance music in the 1990s. The album was produced by Steve Lillywhite, with others involved in the production including Flood, Jacknife Lee, Nellee Hooper, Chris Thomas, Daniel Lanois, Brian Eno, and Carl Glanville. The title of the album derives from a lyric in the song "Fast Cars", which was only available on some versions of the album.

U2 lead singer Bono described the album as "our first rock album. It's taken us twenty years or whatever it is, but this is our first rock album." Although not a concept album in the traditional sense, most of the music on the record deals with the world at the crossroads of its existence. Love and war, peace and harmony, and approaching death are themes of the album.

How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb and its singles won all eight Grammy Awards for which they were nominated. The album also sold over 9 million copies and yielded several successful singles in "Vertigo", "City of Blinding Lights", and "Sometimes You Can't Make It on Your Own".

Track listing
All songs written and composed by U2, with lyrics by Bono, except where noted.

7. "A Man and a Woman" 4:30
8. "Crumbs from Your Table" 5:03

10. "Original of the Species" 4:41
11. "Yahweh" (Bono, Edge) 4:22

U2 - No Line On The Horizon (2009)

Imagen

No Line On The Horizon is the twelfth studio album by Irish rock band U2, released on 27 February 2009. The album is their first since 2004's How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb, the longest gap between studio albums in the band's career.[11] The material was originally intended to be released as two EPs, titled Daylight and Darkness, but it was decided to combine them into one album.[11] A companion film, Linear, was developed and released in conjunction with No Line on the Horizon.

U2 began work on the album in 2006 with Rick Rubin but later decided to shelve most of the material from those sessions. The band collaborated with producers Brian Eno and Danny Lanois from June 2007–December 2008 for the album, allowing them to be involved in the songwriting process.[12] Writing and recording for the album took place in four different cities. No Line on the Horizon was planned for release in November 2008 when the band had written approximately 50–60 songs, but it was delayed as they wished to continue writing.[13][14]

Prior to release, U2 indicated that their collaborations with Eno and Lanois, as well as the brief time they spent in Fez, resulted in a record more experimental than their previous two albums. Upon release, No Line on the Horizon received generally favourable reviews from critics, although many noted that the album was not as experimental as previously suggested. The band are supporting the album with the U2 360° Tour, and they have indicated plans to release a follow-up record entitled Songs of Ascent.

Track listing

1 No Line On The Horizon
2 Magnificent
3 Moment Of Surrender
4 Unknown Caller
5 I’ll Go Crazy If I Don’t Go Crazy Tonight
6 Get On Your Boots
7 Stand Up Comedy
8 FEZ-Being Born
9 White As Snow
10 Breathe
11 Cedars Of Lebanon
