The Rolling Stones - Rock and Roll Circus (1996)

Imagen

Released in 1996, The Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus is a live album that captures the taping of their ill-fated 1968 TV special, which was never broadcast.

The Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus is the fifth release of The Rolling Stones music by former manager Allen Klein's ABKCO Records (who gained control of the band's Decca/London material in 1970) after the band's departure from Decca and Klein. Released in 1996, The Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus is a live album that captures the taping of their ill-fated 1968 TV special, which was never broadcast.

Seeking an original way to promote the newly-released Beggars Banquet, The Rolling Stones concocted the idea of recording a live extravaganza of music with a circus theme. They also invited guests to perform, among whom John Lennon (with Yoko Ono), The Who, Eric Clapton (fresh from the break-up of Cream), Taj Mahal and Mick Jagger's then-current girlfriend, Marianne Faithfull, all took part. Led Zeppelin were initially considered, but their spot ended up going to Jethro Tull (then featuring future Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi) instead. Specially for the occasion, Lennon, Clapton, Keith Richards and Mitch Mitchell (of The Jimi Hendrix Experience) would form a one-time alliance entitled The Dirty Mac.

Recorded on 11 December into the wee hours of the following day, the final results of most acts was positive, except for The Rolling Stones' performance (including the first ever appearance of "You Can't Always Get What You Want"), which they themselves felt was somewhat flat in places and lacked spark, especially when compared with both The Who's standout performance of "A Quick One While He's Away" and The Dirty Mac's rendition of The Beatles' "Yer Blues". Consequently, The Rolling Stones shelved the project for the time being, with the intention of working on it further, but with Brian Jones' death the following July, the moment passed and the project was left to gather dust.

After years of delays, ABKCO finally issued The Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus and a tie-in home video of the event in October 1996 and it reached #92 in the US. In 2004, a DVD edition was released.

AC/DC - Ballbreaker (1995)

Imagen

Ballbreaker is the 13th studio album by the Australian hard rock band AC/DC, released in september of 1995. It was the band's first studio album in five years, since The Razors Edge (1990). The album featured the return of former drummer Phil Rudd, who had been fired from the band in 1983 as a result of problems with rhythm guitarist Malcolm Young. The three singles released from this album were "Hard as a Rock," "Cover You in Oil," and "Hail Caesar." The album was produced by the prolific and respected producer Rick Rubin. Rubin had briefly worked with the band in 1993 to produce the song/single "Big Gun," for the soundtrack to the movie Last Action Hero.

Two weeks into the U.S. tour, four gigs were cancelled so that Brian Johnson could attend his father's funeral. During the tour, MTV cartoon characters Beavis and Butthead appeared in the intro during concerts. Five of the album's songs were played live, 'Hard As a Rock', 'Boogie Man', 'Cover You In Oil', 'Hail Caesar', and 'Ballbreaker'.

Boney M - Gold (1992)

Imagen

Gold - 20 Super Hits is a 1992 greatest hits album by group Boney M.. Shortly after record label PolyGram had acquired the rights to the ABBA back catalogue and had issued the multimillion-selling hits package Gold - Greatest Hits, BMG and producer Frank Farian followed suit with Boney M.'s Gold - 20 Super Hits which resulted in their best chart entry in the UK (#14 - see The Greatest Hits) and most other European countries since 1980's The Magic Of Boney M. - 20 Golden Hits.

The album covers of some editions of the Gold career retrospective declared that these were the 'original masters' which was a truth with modification since producer Farian not only had edited most of the tracks but also had overdubbed them with synthesized 90's percussion such as disco hi-hats, sampled tambourines and handclaps. These mixes have since been credited as the original 70's versions on most Boney M. hit collections issued in the 90's and 2000's, including 2006's The Magic of Boney M..

Gold - 20 Super Hits/The Greatest Hits included a new "Boney M. Megamix", also issued as a single, which reached #7 in the UK in December of 1992 and gave the group their tenth UK Top 10 entry.

Dinamita pa' los pollos - Purita dinamita (1989)

Imagen

Eurythmics - Ultimate Collection (2005)

Imagen

Ultimate Collection is the second greatest hits compilation album by the British pop duo Eurythmics, and was released in November 2005. This set preceded (by one week) the re-issuing of all eight Eurythmics back-catalogue albums originally released on the RCA/BMG label. These re-issues include remastered tracks and bonus material. The fact that the Ultimate Collection was closely connected to these re-issues is also the chief reason for the omission of "Sexcrime (Nineteen Eighty-Four)". While that song gave Eurythmics a #4 hit in the UK in 1984 and was later featured on the previous Greatest Hits album released in 1991, it is actually taken from the 1984 Virgin Records soundtrack album 1984 (For the Love of Big Brother), Eurythmics' only album to date not to be released through RCA/BMG.

Unlike 1991's Greatest Hits, Ultimate Collection contains two newly-recorded songs and all of the tracks have been remastered.

One of the new songs recorded for this collection, "I've Got a Life", was released as a single. It entered the UK singles chart at number 14 and spent three weeks at number one on the Hot Dance Club Play chart in the United States.

Ultimate Collection peaked at no.5 on the UK album charts and was later certified Platinum by the BPI. It peaked at no.116 on the US Billboard 200.

Ultravox - Vienna (1980)

Imagen

Vienna is the fourth studio LP by the Synthpop band Ultravox, first released on 11 July 1980. The album peaked at #3 in the UK charts and was the first Ultravox release to enter the UK top ten. It was eventually certified platinum in the United Kingdom. In Germany is reached #22 and in the United States it reached #164.

"Vienna" is Ultravox's third single and the title track from their fourth album. The single was released on Chrysalis Records on 15 January 1981, and is legendary for spending 4 consecutive weeks at #2 in the UK Singles Chart without ever getting to #1[1]. "Vienna" was kept off the UK #1 slot by John Lennon's "Woman" for a week, and then most famously by Joe Dolce's novelty song, "Shaddap You Face", for a further 3 weeks[2], although "Vienna" did sell more copies than the latter, ranking as the 5th best selling UK single for 1981. It also won single of the year at the UK Brit awards for 1981. It is recognizable for Midge Ure's loud straining vocals. It remains to this date Ultravox's signature song, being their most commercially successful release and is often performed live by Ure on solo performances.

Track listing

1. "Astradyne" – 7:07
2. "New Europeans" – 4:01
3. "Private Lives" – 4:06
4. "Passing Strangers" – 3:48

Ultravox - Dancing With Tears In My Eyes (1997)

Dancing with Tears in My Eyes is a 1997 Ultravox compilation covering their output with Midge Ure, from 1980 to 1987. It was also re-released in 2003 as The Best Of Ultravox with a different cover but identical tracks.

On this compilation, "Love's Great Adventure" is erroneously listed as "Love's Great Adventure (Live)" – it is actually the standard single version. The "(live)" label actually applies to the next track, "White China", which is a B-side on the "Love's Great Adventure" single.

Most of Ultravox's 1980's singles are represented, along with several rarer B-sides.

The Beach Boys - California Girls (1997)

Imagen

01. Surfin' USA
02. California Girls
03. Fun, Fun, Fun
04. I Get Around
05. Wouldn't It Be Nice

Bob Dylan - Biograph (1985)

Imagen

Biograph is a 53-track compilation spanning the career of Bob Dylan, from his 1962 debut album to the 1981 LP Shot of Love. It was released in 1985 by Columbia Records, one of the earliest and most successful examples of the CD Box Set. It reached #33 in the US and went platinum.

The recordings on Biograph are a mix of rarities, hit singles, and fan-favorite album tracks. They are not presented in chronological order, instead jumping around the 60s, 70s and 80s from song to song. Of the 53 tracks, 22 had not been previously issued on any of Dylan's albums, including "Lay Down Your Weary Tune" (which closes the Martin Scorsese film No Direction Home) and "Can You Please Crawl Out Your Window?".

Biograph [1985] A 5-LP box (3 CD BOX) set retrospective of Dylan’s work from 1962–81, packaged with an unprecedented collection of personal and rare photographs and equally unprecedented interview comments by Dylan about the songs themselves, plus other interview material ranging over many topics in which Dylan, sometimes surly but more often open, remains unpredictable and spikey. Though criticised (inevitably) by some collectors, it is a fine if quirky selection of previously issued album tracks plus a significant number of previously unreleased recordings: a different take of ‘Mixed-Up Confusion’ (1962); ‘Baby, I’m in the Mood for You’ (1962); the exquisitely performed ‘protest’ number ‘Percy’s Song’ (1963); the incomparable ‘Lay Down Your Weary Tune’ (1963); by no means the best take of ‘I’ll Keep It with Mine’ (1965); a fragment, previously unknown even to avid collectors, from the Highway 61 Revisited sessions, ‘Jet Pilot’ (1965); the wonderful ‘I Wanna Be Your Lover’ (1965); live cuts from the 1966 tour— the electric ‘I Don’t Believe You’ and the acoustic solo ‘Visions of Johanna’ and ‘It’s All Over Now Baby Blue’; the belated release of take 2 of the original 1967 Dylan & the Crackers takes of ‘Quinn the Eskimo (The Mighty Quinn)’—though take 1 had long circulated unofficially; a publisher’s office demo solo of ‘Forever Young’ (1973); the original studio cut of ‘You’re a Big Girl Now’ and the Blood on the Tracks outtake ‘Up to Me’(1974); the lovely Desire outtake ‘Abandoned Love’ (1975); excellent live recordings of two other Desire songs, ‘Isis’ and ‘Romance in Durango’, from the first Rolling Thunder Revue (1975); a major song from the Shot of Love sessions, ‘Caribbean Wind’ (1981), and a live ‘Heart of Mine’ (1981). An affirmation of the astonishing variety as well as richness of Dylan’s corpus, the collection was well-received by the public and went some way to reviving that fickle thing, Dylan’s critical reputation.
