Bloodhound Gang - Hooray For Boobies (2000)



Hooray for Boobies es el tercer álbum de estudio de Bloodhound Gang. Fue lanzado el 4 de octubre de 1999 en Europa y el 29 de febrero de 2000 en Estados Unidos por Interscope Records. El álbum se convirtió en un gran éxito de ventas y tras la gira promocional del grupo por Europa y Latinoamérica se habían vendido cinco millones de copias.

Fueron extraídos cinco singles de Hooray for Boobies (literalmente en español, "Hurra por las tetas"). El que alcanzó mayor éxito fue "The Bad Touch" con su famoso y peculiar estribillo: "You and me baby ain't nothin' but mammals, So let's do it like they do on the Discovery Channel".



El resto de singles fueron "The Inevitable Return of the Great White Dope", que se incluyó también en la banda sonora de Scary Movie; "Along Comes Mary", una versión del single original de la banda de sunshine pop californiana The Association de la década de los 60; "The Ballad of Chasey Lain", dedicada a la estrella del porno Chasey Lain; y "Mope", canción basada en samples del "Rock Me Amadeus" del austríaco Falco y del "Relax" de Frankie Goes to Hollywood.

Sí, los de "A Whiter Shade Of Pale".

Procol Harum es una banda inglesa de rock formada en la década de los 60 que tuvo una gran influencia en el nacimiento de lo que después sería denominado rock progresivo; su fama mundial reside en su único éxito musical llamado "A Whiter Shade of Pale", la cual se considera su melodía de culto a través de los años y su carrera.

El tema "A Whiter shade of Pale" fue lanzado el 12 de mayo de 1967, con el sucesivo éxito del tema y de la canción de The Moody Blues "Nights in White Satin" (Noches de Blanco Satén) su sello fonográfico Deram Records se convirtió en la primera discográfica de rock progresivo conocida.
Con cautivante tonalidad y su sabor a Bach, ambos provistos por Fisher, su interpretación sentida y letra misteriosa, "A Whiter Shade of Pale" alcanzó la posición número 1 en las listas de popularidad del Reino Unido y logró posicionarse en 5 lugar en las listas americanas, convirtiéndose desde entonces en un tema clásico en la historia musical.
Justo después del lanzamiento de su gran éxito la banda emprendió una gira; debutando como teloneros de Jimi Hendrix en 1967.
La trayectoria del grupo siguió con su sencillo "Homburg", y con un cambio de alineación al incorporar a dos ex miembros de The Paramounts, B.J. Wilson en la batería y a Robin Trower en la guitarra, logrando un decoroso 6o lugar en las listas del Reino Unido, pero su larga duración "Procol Harum" fue menos exitoso que el anterior. Una serie de sencillos posteriores figuraron en posiciones demasiado bajas y rara vez figuraron simultáneamente en E.U.A. y su tierra natal. A mediados de la década de 1970, las ventas del grupo siguieron descendiendo. Su última canción en alcanzar el top 20 en el Reino Unido fue "Pandora's Box", en 1975. Dos años después la banda se separó definitivamente, reuniéndose sólo cinco meses después cuando "A Whiter Shade of Pale" fue nombrada como el mejor single de pop de Gran Bretaña entre 1952 y 1977, compartiendo el galardón con "Bohemian Rhapsody" de Queen.

Boston - Greatest Hits (1997)



El grupo Boston se crea a mediados de 1969 por el ingeniero del MIT Tom Scholz como guitarrista y principal compositor, además del vocalista Brad Delp, el guitarrista Barry Goudreau y el batería Jim Masdea. Tras unos inicios algo inciertos, en el cual grabaron varias demos, el batería Jim Masdea deja el grupo y es reemplazado por Sib Hashian, mientras que el bajista Fran Sheehan se incorpora a las filas del grupo. Es así como, en 1976, y gracias a las composiciones ingeniosas de Scholz, el grupo publica ese mismo año su primer álbum titulado simplemente "Boston", saltando de inmediato a los primeros puestos de las listas de éxitos con el clásico "More Than a Feeling" y con "Peace Of Mind". El trabajo de Scholz se puede ver, asimismo, en la enigmática "Hitch a Ride", una de las piezas más completas del disco. La voz de Delp es, además, un total acierto y se nota cierta innovación en el sonido del grupo en comparación de otras bandas de la época.
Para 1978, el grupo lanza su segundo álbum titulado "Don't Look Back", el cual es de notable menor calidad que su antecesor y no deja muy satisfecho a Scholz, que acusa a la compañía discográfica de haberlo presionado para publicar este material; a pesar de esto, el disco alcanza ventas que le llevan al disco de platino y la canción que da título al disco se convierte en un éxito comercial. Tras ello, comienza un litigio legal entre la compañía y el grupo, que durará años, y que retrasará el siguiente álbum de Boston durante ocho años. El guitarrista Gary Phil sustituye a Guodreau y Fran Sheehan deja también al grupo. Scholz financia sus grabaciones vendiendo equipo, debido al asunto entre CBS y Boston. En 1982 el batería Sib Hashian deja al grupo.
En 1986 se lanza, por fin, "Third Stage" y la canción "Amanda" llega inmediatamente a las listas de popularidad; esta canción es de un sonido muy distinto a las anteriores, una balada muy de los años ochenta acertada por Scholz y la gran voz de Delp. El álbum alcanza disco de platino. Delp deja Boston en 1990 y es sustituido por Fran Cosmo.
El siguiente álbum de Boston no aparece hasta 1994; titulado "Walk On", retoma ciertos sonidos de Hard Rock de los inicios del grupo. Los arreglos de la canción que titula al disco (dividida en tres segmentos) son considerados excesivos por algunos, pero la canción es una de las mejores piezas compuestas y arregladas por el ingenioso Scholz. Delp regresa al grupo ese mismo año.
El siguiente trabajo del grupo es "Corporate America" lanzado en 2002, ya con algunas tendencias pop y otras buenas canciones. Es de resaltar la participación de Fran Cosmo y su hijo Anthony, además de que entra Kimberley Dahme en el bajo y en algunos arreglos vocales. Jeff Neal (batería) completa una la extensa alineación de este álbum.
Fran Cosmo y su hijo dejaron al grupo a principios de 2006 para formar su propia banda, dejando en ese momento a Brad Delp como única voz del grupo. Se especuló sobre una posible reunión con Barry Goudreau durante este periodo.
Una de las aportaciones de Tom Scholz es la tecnología "Rockman", que fue utilizada por Def Leppard en su álbum "Hysteria".
El 9 de marzo de 2007, una de las mejores voces en la historia del rock, Brad Delp, se suicidó inhalando monóxido de carbono. Fue hallado en su casa muerto en el baño con su cabeza encima de una almohada con una nota pegada en el cuello de su camisa con un clip que decía: "soy un alma solitaria". Pruebas de toxicología mostraron que se envenenó respirando monóxido de carbono y también hallaron otra nota en la puerta de su casa diciendo: "Cuando encuentren esta nota, ya estaré muerto, o si no, mi plan B es asfixiarme en mi coche".
El sustituto de Brad Delp fue nada menos que el cantante del grupo de Rock Cristiano Stryper, Michael Sweet, quien participó en el último Tour de Boston.
Después de que Brad Delp nos dejara el pasado 9 de marzo de 2007. La "banda" tiene nuevo cantante, Tommy DeCarlo. El nuevo cantante, fue descubierto por casualidad por la mujer de Scholz cantando Karaoke con una canción de Boston por YouTube.

Bob Marley - Legend (1984)



Legend es un álbum de grandes éxitos de Bob Marley and the Wailers publicado el 8 de mayo de 1984 a través de Island Records. El recopilatorio original, publicado en primer lugar en LP, contiene catorce de las canciones más reconocibles del artista jamaicano (entre ellas diez de sus once top 40 en el Reino Unido) incluidas en su formato de single. Fue publicado posteriormente en formato CD con la misma lista de canciones.
En 1990 apareció una segunda versión en CD con todas las canciones en su duración original, en lugar de estar en formato single. En la edición en casete aparecen dos canciones nuevas, "Punk Reggae Party" y "Easy Skanking", que fueron incluidas en la edición de 2002 de este recopilatorio en CD.
Legend es el álbum más vendido de la historia del reggae, aunque existe cierta controversia a causa de que sólo se incluyen canciones de la etapa final de la carrera del jamaicano, sin atender a sus primeras grabaciones.

Tina Turner - Simply The Best (1991)



Simply the Best is the name of Tina Turner's 1991 "best of" compilation album of her most popular hits since her comeback in the early-mid 1980s. It also included three new songs; Love Thing (UK Airplay #13), I Want You Near Me (#22 UK), and Way of the World (UK Airplay #6 and UK #13) as well as a re-recorded dance version of Turner's classic "Nutbush City Limits", all of which were also issued as singles in 1991 and 1992. The album is Turner's biggest seller in the UK where it is one of the best selling albums of all time for sales in excess of 2.4 million copies. It was certified 8x platinum in the UK and stayed on the UK charts for over 140 weeks. The album sold 7 million copies worldwide.

Gary Glitter - The Glam Years (1995)



Cuando Gary Glitter (de nombre real Paul Gadd) alcanzó el estrellato en la Gran Bretaña del glam-rock no era para nada un principiante en esto de la música. Previamente ya había tocado en un grupo de skiffle denominado Paul Russell & The Rebels y lo había intentado en solitario haciéndose llamar Paul Raven y Paul Monday.

Ninguno de estos proyectos, que incluían colaboraciones con George Martin en la producción, logró sacarle del anonimato. Fue en los años 70 cuando Paul, rebautizándose como Gary Glitter, logró el éxito comercial y un lugar en la historia del rock.

Nacido el 8 de mayo de 1944 (otras fuentes citan 1940) en Banbury, este cantante británico se apuntó al maquillaje, se enfundó en trajes resplandecientes con vestimentas plateadas y, de la mano del productor y compositor Mike Leander, comenzó a editar una retahíla de singles de gran resonancia popular durante comienzos de los años 70, que festejaban con teatralidad y júbilo los procederes clásicos del rock’n’roll de los 50.

Así, Leander y Glitter, acompañados instrumentalmente por la Glitter Band (quienes por separado lograron también el éxito en ventas) co-escribieron en Bell y en marzo de 1972 el tema “Rock’n’Roll”, canción (número 2 en Gran Bretaña) que pronto se convirtió en un himno rockero entre la población británica, extendido con posterioridad a todo el mundo.

Más tarde aparecieron LPs como “Glitter” (1972), “Touch Me” (1973), el directo “Remember Me This Way” (1974) o “GG” (1975), y singles como “I Didn’t Know I Loved You (Till I Saw You Rock’n’Roll)” (número 4), “Do You Wanna Touch Me” (número 2), “Hello Hello I’m Back Again” (número 2), “I’m The Leader Of The Gang (I Am)” (número 1), “I Love You Love Me Love” (número 1), “Remember Me This Way” (número 3), “Always Yours” (número 1), “Oh Yes, You’re Beautiful” (número 2), “Love Like You And Me”, “Doing Alright With The Boys”, “Papa Oom Mow Mow” o “Hello Hello I’m Back Again”.

Con posterioridad grabó en Arista y en GTO con menos fortuna. La llegada de la música punk, con la que compartía energía y arrojo en directo, provocó que su estrella, criticada en su momento por la prensa inglesa, dejase de brillar aunque todavía sus conciertos reunían a una audiencia multitudinaria en el Reino Unido a pesar de sus problemas con las drogas.

En la segunda mitad de los años 90 Gary Glitter sufrió un proceso judicial a causa de posesión de pornografía infantil (se la encontraron en el disco duro del portátil que llevó a reparar). Fue sentenciado en 1999 a cuatro meses de cárcel. Tras cumplir su condena decidió abandonar el Reino Unido, residiendo en Cuba y en Camboya.

Fue deportado de Camboya en 2002 por sospechas de abusos sexuales a menores, y en 2005 fue arrestado al intentar salir de Vietnam. Fue juzgado por cometer actos obscenos con menores (con dos niñas de 10 y 11 años), y condenado a tres años de prisión. Tras cumplir condena, regresó a Londres después de que le fuera denegada la entrada en Tailandia y Hong Kong.

(Nota de abraxas: Vaya, un angelito. Hace palidecer, y nunca mejor dicho, a Michael Jackson. Pero bueno, aquí se trata de su música y no de sus "aficiones".)

The autobiographical thread running through Get Lucky is exemplified by the title track. “The first itinerant person I ever met would sing in soul bands in winter, then work part-time in fairgrounds or ‘go pick fruit down south’ when the weather turned warm,” explains Knopfler. “I was about 15 years old, stuck in school and envious. ‘Get Lucky’ came from him and other traveling characters I went on to meet in places I’d find myself working short-term, like farms, warehouses, building sites, before I got lucky with my songs.”

Elton John - Love Songs (1996)



Love Songs is a 1996 Elton John greatest hits album originally released by MCA Records. It is now available on Island in the US.
In a sense, it may be considered an unofficial Greatest Hits Volume 4. On the US version, ten of the fifteen tracks had been released in the period since the "Volume 3" collection, including the artist's second tenure on MCA and two songs from the then-recent Made In England. (Two of these tracks, however, were live versions of old songs, namely "Candle In the Wind" and "Don't Let the Sun Go Down On Me.") "You Can Make History (Young Again)" and "No Valentines" were made specifically for this release. The former was about John and Taupin each finding love and idealism in their new life partners. Unfortunately, Taupin's relationship would eventually end and is covered in the lyrics of "Mansfield" on the 2001 release, Songs From The West Coast.
The UK version was released in 1995, and saw an alternate track order with the inclusion of such songs as "I Guess That's Why They Call It the Blues", "Nikita", "True Love" (a duet with Kiki Dee), "Please", "Song for Guy", and the original version of "Candle in the Wind". "You Can Make History (Young Again)" and "No Valentines" do not appear on this version since they were recorded after its release.
